Australia - Passport & Nationality - Australian Citizenship (Naturalisation)
Passport through Residency is obtained by continuous residency (or Permanent Residency) in Australia for 4 years on a visa that allows a holder Citizenship. After 4 years of Permanent Residency in Australia, an applicant can lodge a valid Australian Nationality application. This will result in Australian Citizenship and the right to hold an Australian Passport.
Examples of visas that DO NOT result in Citizenship after 4 years are:
- illegal residency;
- student visas;
- tourist visas;
- non-eligible New Zealand Citizens;
- a partner or family member of a non-eligible New Zealand Citizens;
- Investor Retirement Visa; AND
- Business Long Stay Visa (Subclass 457)
