United Kingdom - Permanent Residency - Right of Abode (Woman married to British Husband)
A woman can claim the UK Right of Abode if:
1) she was a Commonwealth citizen on 01.01.1983;
2) she was married between 01.01.1949 and 31.12.1982; AND
2) her husband was British (by birth, descent or otherwise, even if the husband did not hold a British Passport at the time of the marriage).
The Right of Abode is considered to be the next best thing to a British Passport. While it does not necessarily grant British Nationality, it allows the holder to enter, live and work in the UK on a permanent basis. It can never be taken away, and will be stamped into one's passport.
