STATUS OF NORTHERN SOMALILAND

Somaliland (the northern part of modern-day Somalia) was a British Protectorate from 1898 until 25.06.1960.

The area in the south was an Italian territory from 1889.

From 26.06.1960, the Protectorate became independent and six days later, on the 01.07.1960 joined with the south to form Somalia. It is considered a foreign country for UK Nationality purposes.
