United Kingdom - EU Passport - EU Pre Settled Status
It may still be possible for European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) nationals - of any age - to apply for pre-settled or settled status in the UK. Although the date for the EU Settlement scheme has passed (it was 30 June 2021), late applications are still possible as long as the applicant was resident in the UK before 31 December 2020 (although certain exceptions can apply).
Those who apply under the pre-settled scheme will be given a five year electronic visa status which would normally lead to a grant of permanent residence (or settled status) at the end of the five year qualifying period. This permanent residence status is subject to further requirements - in particular that the applicant has not been away from the UK for more than 180 days in each of the five qualifying years. This status allows the EU/EEA national to live in the UK. However, they can choose to live outside of the UK, but they could lose this status if they do so for 24 consecutive months without establishing themselves in the UK during that time.
SETTLED STATUS
The Settled status gives the holder the UK’s Indefinite Leave to Remain similar to permanent residency for those who have already completed five years lawful continuous residence in the UK.Those holding the Settled status can leave the UK for up to five years without losing this status. Those resident in the UK on the settled status are able to naturalise as British citizen.
The above scheme is available to citizens of the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
