United States of America - flag United States of America - Permanent Residency - Green Card

1. Green Card for a relative

Citizens of the United States may help a relative become a lawful permanent resident of the United States by obtaining what is often referred to as a “green card.” The citizen will agree to be a financial sponsor for the relative and must be able to prove enough income or assets to support the relative(s) when they come to the United States.

A U.S. citizen can file a petition for a husband or wife or for married or unmarried children. A U.S. citizen who is at least 21 years or older may also petition for parents, brothers or sisters.

2. Employment related (Green cards)

Green Card Through a Job Offer: One may be eligible to become a permanent resident based on an offer of permanent employment in the United States. Most categories require an employer to get a labor certification and then file a Form I-140, Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker, for you.

Green Card Through Investment: Green cards may be available to investors/entrepreneurs who are making an investment in an enterprise that creates new U.S. jobs.

Green Card Through Self Petition: Some immigrant categories allow one to file for yourself (“self-petition”). This option is available for either “Aliens of Extraordinary Ability” or certain individuals granted a National Interest Waiver.

WhatPassport.com is a specialist UK Nationality and British Citizenship site offering an online search and assessment. Claims to hold a British Passport can be complex and the site offers a quick, simple search to give you the answers. While many people qualify for the UK Ancestry Visa based on holding a Commonwealth passport with a UK born grandmother or grandfather, we have found that if you have a grandparent born in the UK, or if your mother is British or your father is British, then there are several scenarios where you can claim British Nationality and the right to hold a British Passport. This stems from Britain’s collection of British Colonies, British Protectorates and British Protected States in the middle of last century and the Nationality rules concerning what are now the countries of the Commonwealth.
