United Kingdom - Passport & Nationality - Asians in Uganda (UK Nationality)
Because of how the Constitution of Uganda determined how Citizenship was granted, Ugandans with parents or grandparents born OUTSIDE of Uganda have a possibility of being granted one of the five forms of British Nationality. This is because of the protection offered to British Subjects born or resident in Uganda before Independence.
In particular, and because of the large numbers involved, Ugandans with Indian ancestry (parents or grandparents born in India) have a higher likelihood of being granted automatic British Nationality.
STATUS OF UGANDA
Uganda (but not including Bunyoro) was a British Protectorate up until 09.10.1962. Bunyoro became part of this British Protectorate from 1933.
As from 09.10.1962 up to the present day, Uganda was a independent Commonwealth country.
