United Kingdom - Passport & Nationality - British Citizenship by Double Descent (Commonwealth-48d2)
A claim to British Citizenship by Double Descent may be possible through the maternal side of the family, following changes to British nationality law to remedy gender discrimination in the past. This particular solution requires the following set of circumstances:
- The applicant was born between 07/02/1961 and 01/01/1983 in a country that was a Commonwealth country at the time of their birth;
- The applicant's Maternal Grandfather (i.e. their mother's father) must have been born in the UK; AND
- The Candidate must NOT have gained citizenship of their country of birth at the time of their birth (i.e. it must not have occurred automatically and by law).
