A candidate could qualify as a British Citizen in the following set of circumstances:
- They were born after 1 January 1949 but before the independence of their paternal grandfather's country of birth;
- Their father was born in Rhodesia before 12 September 1923;
- Their paternal grandfather was born in a former British Colony; AND
- They have a Right of Abode (including a woman through their marriage to a British husband before 1983, or where they have a grandfather or paternal grandmother born in the UK).
