This is a very rare instance of a potential entitlement to British Overseas Citizenship (commonly known as BOC). It relies on:

  • A candidate born before 01.01.1983;
  • The father born in a foreign country where Extra Territorial Jurisdiction (or ETJ) was exercised over British Subjects;
  • The father's Paternal Grandfather born in the UK

If the client has the Right of Abode through a UK-born grandparent (or is a woman who was married to a British citizen before 1 January 1983), then this BOC status would have been automatically upgraded to full British nationality.
