United Kingdom - Passport & Nationality - British Overseas Citizen (BOC) - Cyprus
This solution arises from a father's birth in Cyprus before its independence on 16 August 1960.
The independence laws of the new country determined who became Cypriot citizens upon independence. If a person did NOT become a Cypriot citizen, and their father was born before independence, then this person would have been reclassified as a British Overseas Citizen (or BOC) on 1 January 1983. Broadly, this solution requires the following:
- Applicant born OUTSIDE of Cyprus;
- Applicant born AFTER 15 August 1960; AND
- Applicant's father born in Cyprus BEFORE independence.
In some circuimstances, it is possible for this claim to lead to full British nationality. In most cases, this requires the Right of Abode through a UK born grandparent.
